Winter Weather Tips

We all remember that harsh weather that overtook North Texas last February.  Many of us were caught off guard and were not prepared for the extended stay the weather had.

Starting this afternoon, the weather is changing dramatically and will remain in difficult conditions for several days.  Please begin your preparation now if you have not already.

Here are some helpful tips to get ready for bad weather in North Texas…

  • Open cabinet doors under sinks to help keep pipes warm.
  • Keep your faucets dripping.
  • Have flashlights and candles on hand in the event of power outages.
  • Learn how to shut off your water in case of emergency.
  • Turn off your irrigation system.
  • Disconnect hoses, drain the water out of your hoses, and insulate outdoor faucets.
  • Cover outdoor plants.
  • In the event of power outages to ONCOR at 888-313-4747 or if in the county in Johnson County to United COOP at 817-556-4000.
  • Avoid all unnecessary travel.
  • Check on and help with preparations those community members who are vulnerable
  • For those of us with farms and ranches… start putting out the hay, buttoning down the hatches, and filling up the water troughs.

Hang on for this last harsh month of winter weather!
