Grief is a natural response to loss. It’s the emotional suffering you feel when something you love is taken away. Often, the pain of loss can feel overwhelming. You may experience all kinds of difficult and unexpected emotions, from shock or anger to disbelief, guilt, and profound sadness.
When we lose something that we have little invested in, we don’t dwell on it long normally. However, when you have worked very hard towards something (ex: a goal, a relationship, an endeavor, etc.) you have an investment.
When you have time and effort committed to something and you lose it can be very painful. It can also, be very difficult to try again. We have found that the best remedy for dealing with loss is not think of it as loss. You may not have won, but you definitely learned something.
When so many things are out of our control, you can only focus on the things you can control. Analyze those things within your control, learn from them, and then move on. When faced with that situation in the future you will be better prepared from your previous experience.
As we like to say, “You win something, or you learn something”.
